3 Tips For Losing Weight

Do you feel that you are bombarded with so much information on a daily basis regarding health and weight loss? There is always a new fad diet that hits the market which promises that you will "lose weight quick". There is so much information out there that it can be very overwhelming and you may not fully know who to turn to and trust.

Have you even have tried quite a few of these "fad diets" that are out there on the market? There are a lot of great sounding weight loss products that promise quick and easy weight loss. But, are they really what you want?

All that information out there about fad diets or lose weight quick schemes may help you lose weight, but did you know that when you go on one of these diets or weight loss plans, 50% of that weight is fat and the other 50% is muscle mass? Do you really want to lose muscle mass? When you lose muscle mass, you become weaker and have a slower metabolism.

What should you be doing in order to lose the weight you have been trying so hard to lose?

1. Healthy eating is one of the best things you can do in order to lose weight. It is important to base your daily intake around vegetables, fruit, lean meat, and whole wheat products. These are the food groups that will ensure you are getting the nutrients your body needs. Losing weight is about making healthy decisions. Decrease your amount of packaged or processed food as well as foods that are cooked in unhealthy ways such as frying.

2. Aerobic Exercise involves increasing your heart rate during physical activity in order to increase the effectiveness of your heart. This type of exercise is usually referred to cardio and involves using the treadmill, elliptical, or bike at the gym. However, you can engage in aerobic exercise by taking your dog for a walk, playing with your kids on the playground, or anything else that raises your heart rate a little. What do you enjoy doing?

3. Definitely do not forget about strength training when you are trying to lose weight. If you are on a diet you will lose fat as well as muscle. It is important to make sure you retain your muscle mass and protect your body from many different ailments that are a result of very little muscle mass. Muscle mass weighs more than fat but it is healthy and can actually increase your metabolism level. It is imperative to overall weight loss and keeping your weight off!

By not focusing on sticking with a diet and focusing more on healthy eating habits, you will find the results you desire and will be able to maintain them for life. Combine healthy eating habits with both aerobic exercise and strength training in order to lose the weight you are craving and to keep it off. Losing weight, while important, should not be your overall goal. Weight loss through healthy measures will set you up for a life of health and wellness.
